You agree that CFL is not engaged in rendering legal services or advice to you by providing the Content on the Website, and that your access to or use of the Website or Content does not create any lawyer-client relationship between you and CFL. We assume no responsibility for any consequence relating directly or indirectly to any action or inaction you take based on the Content. You are advised to seek specific legal advice by contacting us or your own legal counsel regarding your particular circumstances.
2. Waiver of Conflicts

You understand that it is our strict policy that we do not read any attachments or confidential information beyond your name and contact information prior to meeting for a consultation, regardless of how such attachments or confidential information are transmitted. Further, you understand that if you do not proceed with a consultation, we will immediately delete any information other than your basic contact information and, as a result, we do not have any confidential information in our possession and have not accessed same.
You understand and agree that we may choose to represent another party in your matter should you not proceed with a consultation.
3. Communications through the Website
If you are not a current client of CFL and you communicate with us through the Website, please be advised that we are under no obligation to keep your communication confidential, nor will any such communication invoke solicitor-client privilege. Unless you have a pre-existing, documented solicitor-client relationship with CFL, you agree not to communicate any confidential information to us.
4. Ownership of Intellectual Property
All Website design, text, graphics, sound, software, layout, and Content, and the selection and arrangement thereof, are the property of CFL or its licensors and are protected by local, national, and international copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. Except as granted in the limited license below, you agree not to copy, reproduce, republish, translate, transmit, modify, distribute, or otherwise exploit the Website, the Content, or any elements thereof.

8. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify CFL and its affiliates, together with their respective directors, officers, partners, employees, agents, licensors, and suppliers (collectively, the "Affiliates"), and to defend and hold each of them harmless from any and all claims and liabilities (including reasonable legal fees) made by a third party due to or arising out of: (i) your access or use of the Website, the Content, or the Products; (ii) your breach of the Terms of Use; or (iii) your violation of any third party rights.

IN NO EVENT WILL CFL OR ANY OF ITS AFFILIATES BE LIABLE FOR ANY GENERAL, INCIDENTAL, DIRECT, INDIRECT, PUNITIVE, EXEMPLARY, CONSEQUENTIAL OR OTHER DAMAGES WHATSOEVER (INCLUDING DAMAGES FOR LOSS OF PROFITS OR ANY OTHER PECUNIARY LOSS) IN CONNECTION WITH ANY CLAIM, LOSS, DAMAGE, ACTION, SUIT OR OTHER PROCEEDING ARISING UNDER OR OUT OF YOUR USE OF, RELIANCE UPON, ACCESS TO, OR EXPLOITATION OF THE WEBSITE, THE CONTENT OR ANY PRODUCTS PURCHASED ON OR THROUGH THIS WEBSITE, EVEN IF CFL HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES, WHETHER THE ACTION IS BASED ON CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE), INFRINGEMENT OF INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS OR OTHERWISE.
IN ANY EVENT, CFL'S TOTAL MAXIMUM AGGREGATE LIABILITY UNDER THESE TERMS OF USE OR ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF, RELIANCE UPON, OR ACCESS TO THE WEBSITE, THE CONTENTS OR ANY PRODUCTS PURCHASED ON OR THROUGH THIS WEBSITE WILL BE LIMITED TO THE LESSER OF: THE PURCHASE PRICE ACTUALLY PAID BY YOU TO CFL TO ACCESS OR USE THE WEBSITE, THE CONTENTS OR ANY SUCH PRODUCTS; OR $10.00.
Some jurisdictions do not allow the disclaimer of certain warranties or the limitation or exclusion of liability for certain types of damages. Accordingly, some of the above disclaimers and limitations may not apply to you. In such jurisdictions, the exclusions to liability are limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11. Termination
In our sole discretion, we may elect to cancel or terminate your ability to use the Website, or any parts thereof, at any time without notice to you.
12. General
These Terms of Use, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and CFL with respect to the Website, the Content, and the purchase of any Products. All references in these Terms of Use, the Website, or the Content to "CFL", "the firm", "we", "us", "our" and similar terms should be interpreted to mean CFL LLP. The insertion of headings is for convenience only and does not affect the construction or interpretation of these Terms of Use.
If any provision of these Terms of Use is found to be unlawful, void, or unenforceable, that provision will be deemed severable and will not affect the validity or enforceability of the remaining provisions. You may not assign, convey, subcontract, or delegate your rights, duties, or obligations under these Terms of Use.
The failure of either party to insist upon or enforce strict performance of any provision, or to exercise any right under these Terms of Use, will not be construed as a waiver of such provision or right.

This Website is controlled, operated, and administered by CFL from within the Province of Alberta, Canada. By accessing the Website, you acknowledge and agree that all matters relating to your access to or use of the Website are governed by the laws of the Province of Alberta and the federal laws of Canada applicable therein, without reference to conflict of laws principles. 14. Arbitration
Except where prohibited by applicable law, any controversy, claim, or dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms of Use, the Content, any Products purchased on or through this Website, or the relationship resulting from these Terms of Use, including matters relating to performance, breach, enforcement, existence, or validity, which cannot be amicably resolved, will be referred to and finally settled by private and confidential binding arbitration before a single arbitrator in Calgary, Alberta. The arbitration will be conducted in English and governed by the Arbitration Act (Alberta), as amended or replaced from time to time.
Any such claim shall be arbitrated on an individual basis and shall not be consolidated with any claim of any other party. Support Calculator Terms
Last Updated: July 19, 2026
These Support Calculator Terms (the "Calculator Terms") apply to the child and spousal support calculator made available on this Website, including at /child-support-calculator-alberta/ and /spousal-support-calculator-alberta/ (the "Calculator"). The Calculator Terms apply in addition to, and form part of, the Terms of Use above. By checking the acceptance box, or by accessing or using the Calculator or any output it generates (including any printed or saved report, a "Report"), you agree to be bound by these Calculator Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Calculator.
1. Informational Tool Only; No Advice; No Lawyer-Client Relationship
The Calculator is a general information tool. It produces estimates only and does not provide legal, tax, financial, or other professional advice. Your use of the Calculator, and any Report, does not create a lawyer-client relationship between you and CFL, does not make you a client of CFL, and does not give rise to any duty of care, retainer, or fiduciary or professional obligation owed by CFL to you. CFL does not review, monitor, or verify any information you enter or any result generated.
2. Assumptions and Limitations
The Calculator applies published formulas and government parameters, including the federal child support tables, the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines (which are advisory only and not law), and tax and benefit parameters for the periods identified on the Calculator page. Its results depend entirely on the accuracy and completeness of the information you enter and on assumptions that are stated on the Calculator page and incorporated into these Calculator Terms by reference, including that: entitlement to spousal support is assumed and is a legal question the Calculator cannot determine; the income figures entered are each party's correct guideline income, which may itself require legal analysis; both parties are assumed to reside in Alberta; and certain matters, including the SSAG exceptions, restructuring, undue hardship, income imputation, retroactive support, and arrears, are not modelled. Tables, legislation, guidelines, and tax and benefit parameters change over time, and results may not reflect the parameters applicable to your circumstances or time period.
3. No Reliance
You agree not to rely on the Calculator or any Report in making any decision, in negotiating, drafting, or signing any agreement, in swearing or affirming any document, or in any court or dispute resolution proceeding, without first obtaining advice from a qualified family law lawyer based on your specific circumstances. Support obligations are determined by law applied to proven facts, and a court or arbitrator may reach outcomes materially different from any estimate generated by the Calculator.
4. Privacy of Calculator Inputs
The Calculator runs entirely in your web browser. The information you enter into the Calculator, and the results generated, are processed on your device and are not transmitted to, collected by, or stored by CFL. If you print or save a Report, you are responsible for its safekeeping. Standard website analytics described in our Privacy Policy (such as the fact that the page was visited) continue to apply to the page itself.
5. Intellectual Property and Permitted Use
The Calculator, including its underlying code, formulas implementation, design, and Reports, is Content owned by CFL under the Terms of Use. You may use the Calculator and print Reports for your personal, non-commercial use only. You agree not to copy, reproduce, distribute, frame, scrape, reverse engineer, or commercially exploit the Calculator or any substantial portion of its outputs without CFL's prior written consent.
6. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
WITHOUT LIMITING SECTIONS 9 AND 10 OF THE TERMS OF USE, WHICH APPLY TO THE CALCULATOR AND ANY REPORT, THE CALCULATOR IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING ANY WARRANTY OF ACCURACY, COMPLETENESS, CURRENCY, OR FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. CFL AND ITS AFFILIATES WILL HAVE NO LIABILITY WHATSOEVER FOR ANY LOSS, CLAIM, OR DAMAGE OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM OR RELATING TO YOUR USE OF, OR RELIANCE ON, THE CALCULATOR OR ANY REPORT, INCLUDING ANY DECISION MADE, AGREEMENT ENTERED INTO, OR PROCEEDING TAKEN OR NOT TAKEN. IN ANY EVENT, CFL'S TOTAL AGGREGATE LIABILITY IN CONNECTION WITH THE CALCULATOR IS LIMITED TO $10.00 AS SET OUT IN THE TERMS OF USE.
7. Changes and Availability
CFL may modify, update, suspend, or discontinue the Calculator, and may amend these Calculator Terms, at any time without notice. Continued use of the Calculator after a change is posted constitutes acceptance of the change. The governing law, arbitration, indemnification, and severability provisions of the Terms of Use apply to these Calculator Terms.
