William Aadil Musani, Founder

Focused on Complex Property, Corporate, and Financial Matters

Most family lawyers learn about business structures and tax implications on the fly. William built his career in them.

Before founding Cunningham Family Law, he spent years practicing corporate and commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, and tax law — working with both international firms and a Tier-1 ranked Canadian tax boutique. He advised on sophisticated corporate structures, cross-border matters, and high-value transactions before bringing that experience to family law.

He founded Cunningham Family Law for a specific reason: clients going through divorce and separation — particularly those with business interests, significant assets, or complex financial situations — deserve a lawyer who actually understands the financial landscape, not one learning it on their file.

What This Means for Clients

The difference between a family lawyer with a corporate background and one without shows up in the details — the details that determine whether a settlement actually protects you long-term.

We read financial statements as comfortably as court filings. We understand corporate structures, tax implications, and valuation methods because we’ve spent years working with them directly. This means we can identify hidden assets, challenge inaccurate valuations, and develop settlement strategies that account for the full financial picture.

For high-net-worth and complex separations, this matters enormously. The difference between a settlement that looks fair on paper and one that actually is often comes down to whether your lawyer understands how business income flows, how corporate structures can obscure value, and how tax consequences can erode what you thought you were getting.

Our Approach to Dispute Resolution

Not every dispute needs a courtroom. William is trained and experienced in mediation and arbitration, negotiation, and collaborative approaches. His background as a corporate negotiator and business executive means he’s comfortable in high-stakes situations and knows how to move a file toward resolution efficiently.

When litigation is necessary, we approach it strategically. When it’s not, we help clients resolve matters faster, with less cost and less damage to the relationships that still matter — especially when children are involved.

For clients who want guidance without full representation, we also offer legal coaching — strategic advice and document review on an as-needed basis.

Our goal in every file is the same: the best possible outcome with the least unnecessary conflict and cost.

How We Work With Clients

We are responsive, direct, and transparent. Clients know where their file stands, what their options are, and what each option will likely cost. We explain the law in plain language, we answer questions promptly, and we don’t bill for every five-minute phone call.

Family law is personal. The financial stakes are often the highest of a client’s life, and the emotional weight is real. We take both seriously.

If you’re considering separation or need advice on how to plan for divorce, we can help you understand your options before you make any decisions.
